DESCRIPTION:Cappella Cantorum presents its Spring Concert featuring The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins\, starting at 3pm on Sunday\, April 21\, 2024 at First Church of Christ in Saybrook. The Cappella Cantorum Masterworks Chorus will be joined by soprano soloist Lisa Williamson\, the Cappella Orchestra\, and the Select Singers of Lyme-Old Lyme High School. \nThe Peacemakers sets words of peace from iconic\, world-changing figures such as Gandhi\, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King\, along with other inspirational quotations of Mother Teresa\, Albert Schweitzer\, Anne Frank and the Dalai Lama. Also included are religious texts from the Bible\, the Qur’an\, St Francis of Assisi and Bahá’u’lláh\, and the poetry of Shelley\, Malory\, Terry Waite and Carol Barratt. One line from the Persian mystic poet Rumi sums up the ethos of the work: ‘All religions\, all singing one song: Peace be with you’. \n The performance will be conducted by Simon Holt\, Music Director of Cappella Cantorum and the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme\, as well as Founder and Artistic Director of Salt Marsh Opera. The Select Singers are directed by Kristine Pekar\, Choral Director of Lyme-Old Lyme High School. \n\n
